Directions in Vaastu

Vaastu mentions 4 Primary and 4 Secondary directions, these 8 directions are one of the most important features that one has to keep in mind while planning for their residences, office or temples.

4 Primary directions
  • East is ruled by Indra, the chief of the demigods, giver of all-round prosperity. The direction also represents the realm of the rising Sun projecting ultra-violet rays, which is very essential for health in several ways.
  • South is the abode of Yama, the demigod of death and Justice.
  • West is the abode of Varuna, the demigod of ocean. It is also the direction of the setting Sun which gives infra-red radiation.
  • North is the abode of Kuber, the demigod of wealth and good fortune

4 Secondary directions ( the energy points of Vaastu Purusha
  • North-east (Eshan) is ruled by the Supreme Lord Vishnu or God Himself. This direction is paramount, which demands keeping it scrupulously clean, open, light and highly receptive in a welcome "mode" always. This is also the head of Vaastu Purusha.
  • South-east (Agneya) is the habitat the demigod Agni or fire, the storehouse of energy.
  • South-west (Nairitya) is the abode of the demon couples Putna & Nairutya
  • North-west (Vayavva) is the abode of the demigod Vayu also know as air/wind, the invisible, but the most effective blessing for all objects in need of motion/movement for their efficiency.
